We take on costing, casting, hall, recording and post-production, and hand over a finished recording.
It starts with the score. Send it to info@konzertsaal.at, with the parts if you have them.
We read the work through and estimate what it actually takes: how many players, how much rehearsal, how many recording days, what acoustic. Out of that comes a proposal with a cost range and a schedule. Nothing is charged before that point.

The process

Score
The full score as PDF, parts if they exist. Along with a few lines: the occasion, the forces you have in mind, the timeframe, and what the recording is for, meaning a release, broadcast, a submission or video.

Costing
We read the piece and do the sums: number of players, rehearsal time, recording days, hall hire, post-production. You get a cost range rather than a fixed price, because rehearsal time tends to shift.

Casting and venue
We approach the players who suit the piece and choose the hall for the acoustic it needs. For orchestral forces we work with Viennese orchestras; period instruments are possible where the work suggests them.

Recording days
We rig about an hour before the start. During the session someone follows the score and writes down which take was usable. Before the session ends we go through the list and pick up whatever is missing. Video runs alongside if you want it.

Post-production
Editing take by take, mixing, room treatment, and for video the cut and the grade. You get a review version and tell us what you don't like about it.

Master
Mastered audio at the resolution you need, video in 4K, plus the raw session material. The rights to the recording are yours.
Who sits at the desk
Session supervision here is done by someone who can read the piece. That sounds obvious and isn't: in many sessions the engineer watches levels and stray noise, and whether a take was musically usable is left to the players to judge. After four hours in a hall, they judge it badly.
So we keep a take log and report back on what is still open. It costs a few minutes during the session and usually saves a second recording day.
We cost per project. A string quartet over one afternoon and an orchestra over three days have little in common; a price list would be wrong for most enquiries.
Photography
Damián Posse has photographed musicians and ensembles for years. Booklet images, cover artwork and press photographs can therefore be done on the same occasion, in the same hall, on the same days. Examples at dpossephotography.com. Photographic work is invoiced separately.
