Who we work with.

Viennese orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists, on modern or period instruments.

For most productions we put the forces together ourselves. We draw on Viennese ensembles we have worked with for years, all of which have agreed to be named here.

Concilium Musicum Wien

Founded in 1982 by Paul and Christoph Angerer and today directed by Christoph Angerer. The ensemble plays on original instruments from the period in which the works were written, with a focus on Austrian baroque, on Haydn and Mozart, and on nineteenth-century Viennese dance music. It performs in formations ranging from chamber ensemble to full orchestra, and is therefore the first port of call for larger forces.

Auner Quartett

Founded in Vienna in 2013 and named after the Viennese violinist and composer Mary Dickenson-Auner. Prizewinner at the Eugène Ysaÿe Competition in Liège, among others. The repertoire centres on music written in Vienna, from the Viennese classics through late romanticism through to contemporary commissions.

Violin · accordion · double bass

Essenz Trio

An unusual combination of violin, accordion and double bass. Programmes range from Bartók and Piazzolla to South American waltzes and Romanian folk dances. Suited to productions that leave the classical canon behind.

Soloists are engaged for the production at hand. Who fits depends on the repertoire and on who happens to be in Vienna at the time.

An example from practice

For a CD recording of a violin concerto, a complete production means, in concrete terms:

Approaching the soloist and the orchestra, arranging period instruments if they are called for, settling the conducting and the rehearsal schedule, booking the hall, fixing the recording days, providing supervision and engineering, then editing, mixing and mastering. The client has one contract and one person to talk to.

Halls

Which hall comes into question depends on the forces and the reverberation. We can put you in touch with venues including the Ehrbar Saal, the Kaisersaal, the Lorely-Saal and the Bank Austria Salon in the Altes Rathaus. Churches work as well, and larger private rooms often do; what decides it is the reverberation time and the noise from outside.

You know what needs recording.

Send the score and we will propose the players, the hall and the schedule.
